GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Qualitative Research Officer will support the execution of LMH’s research & evaluation strategy through field coordination/management, data analysis, manuscript development, dissemination. This position will work closely with the Research & Evaluation Manager and the Director of RM&E in carrying out multiple qualitative studies related to the national Community Health Advisor (CHA) program. This position will be critical in terms of rigorously understanding the initial rollout of the Liberia national community health worker program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in the design and refinement of multiple qualitative research studies, each of which will assess a different aspect of the Liberia national CHA program.
- Travel to the field to conduct interviews and focus groups with key stakeholders, and supervise the activities of co-enumerators.
- Perform coding and analysis of qualitative data to ascertain common themes
- Conduct literature reviews to help guide the design of qualitative research projects and to contextualize findings from original research
- Work closely with the Director of RM&E, R&E Manager, and Technical Advisors to author reports of study findings (both internal reports, and reports for publication in peer-reviewed academic journals).
- Disseminate and discuss results amongst internal team members, Ministry of Health staff, and other external stakeholders.
Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as public health, required
- Advanced science or public health degree preferred
- At least two years of experience with qualitative research methods
- At least two years of experience working on research, evaluation, and/or analysis activities for healthcare organizations
- Research experience, including writing high-quality research publications and disseminating results to various stakeholders, preferred
- Experience managing one or more field-based staff members preferred
- Prior experience in a remote setting and willingness to travel to various program sites as needed
- Experience with qualitative methods required
- Experience with qualitative data analysis software, such as MAXQDA or Dedoose
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- High level of initiative to innovate and lead in remote and resource-limited settings
