The Community Health Academy ("Academy") will reinvent the training of community health workers and the leaders who support them for digital age. The Academy will establish the world's first digital Continuing Education (CE) platform tailored for community health workers and the supervisors, managers and policymakers who support them.
In partnership with governments, the private sector, philanthropic and non-governmental organizations, the Academy will enable community health workers to receive the very best in continuing clinical education resources like video lessons on promoting family planning and podcasts on identifying the next outbreaks, and will support countries to develop accreditation programs for community health workers so they don't remain an undervalued group, but become a renowned, empowered profession like nurses and doctors.
In parallel, the Academy will also develop a continuing professional education platform creating free, open, online continuing professional education platform leveraging massive open online courses and supporting local communities of practice - for policy makers, managers, supervisors working to build stronger systems to support these community health workers.

General Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader to launch the Community Health Academy (CHA). Leading a fast-growing team, the CHA Director will be responsible for defining the CHA's strategy, forging foundational partnerships, and launching a portfolio of products and services to advance CHA's mission to build a global professional community health workforce. This role will involve high-level stakeholder engagement, vision-setting, and the management of the team to achieve critical early-stage milestones in the launch of the CHA's programming.
Essential Job Functions
Launch the CHA
- Lead the recruitment of the CHA's start-up team, manage the budget, formalize first-round project agreements, and the support the acquisition of necessary revenue to fund CHA activities.
Leadership
- Develop the strategic and operational plans for the CHA, working closely with Dr Raj Panjabi and the Advisory Board.
- Serve as spokesperson for CHA, nationally and internationally.
- Lead representation and engagement with senior global policy makers, private sector organizations and others to secure investments (financial and technical assistance) in relation to the CHA and its activities.
Global advocacy
- Develop and implement an advocacy strategy to encourage global private- and public-sector and multilateral leaders to align and expand investments for community health systems strengthening, specifically in relation to community health workforce development.
- Lead representation and engagement with senior global policymakers and advocacy partners in relation to community health workforce development and ongoing professional development.
Build an innovative program
- Lead the team to develop digital education resources for CHWs, supervisors, and policymakers and establish a technical advising practice that helps implementers and governments adapt best practice training.
Forge foundational partnerships to support implementation and growth of the CHA
- Reporting to the CEO, the Director will manage the CHA's relationships with key external stakeholders, such as our educational partner, HarvardX, community health implementing organizations, technical institutions such as the Global Fund or Gavi, and the country governments implementing CHW programs.
Qualifications
Essential
- Master Degree in business, public health, policy, or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of professional experience; at least 5 years of senior leadership or management experience.
- Proven leadership with experience of leading diverse teams and contractors.
- Evidence of being able to lead vision-setting.
- Demonstrated success in leading a coalition, association, or working group in creating strategies, aligning activities and messaging, and implementing advocacy.
- Demonstrated success in grants management, project management, and donor reporting in global health or development.
- Knowledge of the funding landscapes and successful track record of fundraising.
- Proven ability to represent an organization publicly and create and maintain effective working relationships with high-level government personnel and partners from a variety of sectors.
- Innovative thinker with proven experience bringing new ideas and practices to growing projects.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working with community health workers.
- Knowledge of education and training pedagogical models, in particular in relation to online and mHealth learning.
- Knowledge of mHealth/digital tools for delivering learning in low resource settings.
