The Role

We are looking for an inspirational Director of MERL with experience in monitoring, evaluation, a commitment to learning and working in close partnership with stakeholders from the community to the national level and building capacity and a culture for learning within LMH.
As the Director of MERL reporting to the Country Director, you will lead and manage an incredible Liberia-based MERL team, oversee exciting work including population surveys, work with the team in Liberia and the US to analyze, communicate and work with a range of internal and external partners to disseminate our learnings, support data use for quality improvement and building capacity. Your work to design and implement an innovate approach to MERL will be supported by a deeply experienced team of scientific advisors and a Senior Director for Implementation Sciences. Your technical expertise, ability to support the team to clearly communicate data results to drive change, and great people development experience will be critical to building truly learning-oriented clinical program and organizational culture.
What You'll Do
- In partnership with global and country leadership, help implement and evolve the vision and strategy for a successful and high-impact monitoring, and evaluation research, and learning agenda for Liberian programming.
- Lead and coach team members who are leading core workstreams and provide timely and technical feedback, including support on: data collection and reporting systems, community-based information systems, digital health tools, and implementation research.
- Develop multi-year and annual operational plans that are comprehensive, actionable, and inclusive of core MERL workstreams.
- Work with other LMH programs to develop and adapt learning best practices to promote reflective practices and promote use of data for improvement across all LMH departments and external stakeholders, including serving as senior representative for donor meetings and external convenings.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director for Implementation Science and Advisors to support development and design of implementation research studies and evaluations at field sites in Liberia and disseminate findings from research studies among in-country stakeholders, including the LMH programs team and the Liberia Ministry of Health.
- Work with the team to ensure effective analysis of trends and patterns in Liberia’s National Community Health Assistant program and oversee the creation of reports to guide decision-making at management and policy levels.
- Be available to travel up to 15%, mostly throughout Liberia.
What You'll Bring
- Several years of experience in the monitoring & evaluation of public health programs, preferably in low resource settings
- Experience in participating or leading research in low resource settings
- Significant experience managing, coaching, and developing staff
- Strong data management skills, including working knowledge of relational databases and statistical software
- Demonstrated ability to promote and enable organization-wide data use for learning
- Graduate degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related public health quantitative methods field
