The Senior Accountant will promote long-term organizational financial sustainability of the Last Mile health (LMH). The Senior Accountant will oversee the preparation of monthly finance reports, initiate and maintain a Risk Management Program at LMH.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of internal financial policies and procedures with emphasis on internal controls.
- Initiate and maintain a Risk Management Program at LMH.
- Maintain and promote the use of effective financial controls, procedures and systems. Recommend changes and improvements to the Chief Financial Officer.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer in managing overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Finance Department.
- Manage Accounts receivable & payable
- Perform monthly bank reconciliation
- Manage cash flow and forecasts and ensure that the country office, its partners and vendors receive funds in a timely manner
- Assist in the budgeting, re-forecasting, and donor financial reporting of the organization including assisting the annual budgeting process as well as regular financial reporting and analysis
- Provide oversight on other activities including, but not limited to reviewing payroll, online banking, preparing wire transfers, and participate in negotiating vendor and bank relationships
- Support Finance team in ensuring compliance with International Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and US federal regulation requirements.
- Achieve financial objectives by aiding in the preparation of an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; recommending corrective actions.
- Responsible for all daily activities of the Finance Unit including processing of the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, Restricted Grants Management, and General Ledger functions. Provide leadership roles to ensure that all activities are processed and completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Responsible for the monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts including bank accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets and other liability accounts. Establish and maintain a centralized vendor administration function against provider payouts.
- Assist in payroll processing and prepare payroll audits and reports.
- Ensure proper tax and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for accounting treatment of various revenue streams.
- Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer to oversee the recording of monthly allocation entries to ensure timely update and adjustment of allocation methodologies as well as the monthly financial statements.
- Coordinate and manage the annual finance audit and the year-end tax reports under general direction of the Chief Financial Officer. Responsible for the development of audit plan and procedure, review and communicate audit findings, and manage all related documentations.
- Manage filing of the state registrations, financial reports, tax filings and other filings required by the government. Assist in the compilation of information for the organization’s annual tax returns.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer in preparation of the annual budget. Train non-financial managers to improve their ability to manage finances and to coordinate their budgets with other programs.
- Prepare the Statements of Cash Flows when required. Prepare and manage a fully consolidated, organization wide financial system. Establish and maintain proper controls to manage expenses, cash flow and assets.
- Review and make appropriate adjustments for all monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements. Assist the Chief Financial Officer in preparing financial reports for the Executive Team and the Board of Trustees. .
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as needed and assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
- Must have thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Financial Statement Preparation including Footnotes.
- Minimum 5 years accounting experience preferably in non-profit organizations. Familiarity with FASBs related to non-profit accounting (FASB 116 & 117).
- Demonstrated familiarity with diverse accounting functions (restricted fund analysis, budgets, audits, insurance, payroll, etc.). Strong experience in the development of internal financial policies and procedures. Knowledge of operating and capital budget concepts.
- Efficiency in using relevant technology tools and must have a good knowledge of computerized accounting systems. Must have superior knowledge Microsoft Office particularly Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with computerized fund accounting systems is required.
- Must be familiar with Quick Book general ledger. Ability to design appropriate and useful management reports. Demonstrated aptitude to identify problems in financial reports and implement required changes.
- Must have excellent oral and written communications skills, analytical skills and good interpersonal skills.
